Food is one of the important factors that determine the risk of disease a person owned. A
study of the latest find, the consumption of peanut butter since
adolescence can reduce the risk of breast tumors with as adults.
Breast tumors are non-cancerous lumps in breast tissue. However, experts agree that breast tumors is one of the risk factors of breast cancer.
The
study published in the journal Breast Cancer Research and Treatment,
the researchers involve 9,000 girls aged 9 to 15 years old. Participants were monitored his progress from 1996 to 2010, i.e. when they are already a young adult women.
The researchers found, participants who regularly eat peanut butter had a 39 percent lower risk of developing breast tumors.
Dr.
Graham Colditz, senior researcher and Director of the cancer prevention
and control at the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and
Washington University School of Medicine said the study results, it
gives new hope to help prevent breast cancer.
Breast tumors, says Colditz, quite often happen and the risk factors of breast cancer. Before menopause, almost one out of four women experience breast tumors were confirmed through biopsy.
"Very clearly there is a strong link between tumors and breast cancer risk. The Tumor can increase the risk of breast cancer by up to a third, "he said.
Researchers studied the research participants in a period of time long enough. In
addition to measuring the risk of tumors, the researchers also asked
participants to fill out questionnaires about their diet everyday.
Investigators were focusing on proteins and fats from vegetables, including peanut butter, nuts, or beans, and corn. According
to them, the daily servings of these foods is associated with a
decreased risk of breast tumors 68 percent, as well as three servings
per week associated with 39 of the risk.
However,
the researchers say, the relationship between the consumption of these
foods and the risk of breast tumor is not a causal relationship.
"The
message that can be taken is better peanut butter dishes chosen by
young women as more salubrious than pastries," said Colditz.
